New To Cannabis Consumption? Here's a guide from a user. Learn from Stoney Xochi, an experienced cannabis user, retail specialist, and social media guru, about how to safely try cannabis as you embark on your cannabis journey.

Tell us about yourself and your origin story of consuming cannabis.

I have been using cannabis for over 15 years as both a medical patient and recreational user. I began to experiment with cannabis as a youngster. As I got older and the industry began to evolve I made sure to try to experience as many types of cannabis products as possible. From edibles to combustibles, I have had the pleasure and privilege to foster such a great relationship with this plant.

What ways can you consume cannabis?

Up until a few weeks ago, I would have told you my ideal form of consumption was a bong rip or a joint, but I just finished a 3-week smoke break - which is the longest I have gone without smoking in a long long time. I have rekindled my love for edibles and tinctures. I also enjoy topicals. Not just balms or oils for aches and pains either. I have recently become obsessed with cannabis skincare and am thrilled to see more products emerging in this field.

What are the safest ways for cannabis consumption?

I think cannabis is unique in the sense that it affects everyone differently. What is right for me may not be right for you, and visa versa. That being said, if you are a beginner I suggest one of the many microdose options on the market. If you like to smoke, I suggest a vaporizer or a nice joint. Concentrates are also great for those who are trying to smoke clean, enjoy out of an electronic bad rig, such as the PuffCo Peak.

What are the riskiest ways of consuming cannabis? Share any experience of yours if you can recall.

I am not sure what the word risky means here? Dangerous? With the potential to consume too much? My only tip for having a good time is to be comfortable in your surroundings and know your limits.

What are the right questions new cannabis consumers can ask budtenders before they buy?

Have they had the chance to try the products themselves? Never trust a company that asks someone to sell a product they haven’t had the opportunity to try. Cannabis is about finding what works best for you, finding something that seems appealing and won’t break the bank. Once you find something you like, your budtender can easily guide you in the direction of new and exciting products that work best for you!

If you had to give a cannabis consumption 101, what would that be?

If you don’t already smoke, I don’t suggest starting there. Aside from that, don’t be afraid to try new things and experiment in a safe and comfortable environment. Have some CBD handy in case you consume too much THC as it helps counter the negative effects of overconsumption.

What do you advise a newbie to start with?

I suggest someone brand new to cannabis try a tincture with at least some CBD in it or a micro-dose mint to tablet.

How does one know about their optimal dose?

The only way to know your dose is to experiment. All beginners will likely start at 2.5 - 5 mg THC and go up from there. Additionally, adding CBD to the party helps keep you from doing too much.

Common myths that haven’t been dispelled yet, either by widespread experience or by scientific findings?

Not to my knowledge.
