15/03/2023 Marijuana: Tricks and Tips from an Experienced Consumer
Are you encountering issues while trying to maneuver through the cannabis world? Any small things you wish you had help with but can't seem to get any answers to? I'm going to cover some of the seemingly little things that could end up rocking your world.
Consumption methods can be confusing for people new to cannabis. To find out what works best for you, there is a learning curve. Experiment and use the following tips to find the sweet spot you want to be at.
I can't say enough about how important the quality of cannabis is to your experience. Whether smoking, vaping, or consuming edibles, satisfaction relies on quality, cannabinoid, and terpene profiles. When in doubt, ask your budtender for suggestions.
Smoking Cannabis
Joint: the quality of the paper matters. The firmness of the roll makes a huge difference too. Use quality rolling paper for an even, slow burn. Try not to pack the joint so tight that no air can go through on the draw.
Is your weed migrating all over the counter or table? A rolling tray will keep things nice and tidy. I find while rolling, it helps to use a tamping stick to keep the material tucked in close to the paper.
Practice, practice, practice! There are rolling machines to assist in the process as well. When all else fails, purchase a pre-rolled joint from your local legal cannabis dispensary.
Bong: keeping your equipment clean creates such a contrast in taste. Clean your equipment often.
Use a glass, brass, or stainless steel screen in the bowl. This helps prevent solid particles from entering the air chambers as you smoke.
If it will fit, add ice cubes to your bongs water chamber. The ice will slowly melt as you take each draw from the bong. Ice makes the throat hit smoother and more enjoyable.
Hand pipe - again, I recommend a screen of some kind. No need to wear the weed in your teeth! A pipe will get dirty, fast. Clean with rubbing alcohol and Epsom salts to reach all the crevices. Rinse and dry well.
Vaping
Cartridges- whether your choice is half-gram or whole-gram cartridges, store the cartridge straight up with the mouthpiece facing the sky. Oils will stick to the delivery tube and clog your cartridge if laid on its side.
Every few days, between vape sessions, run an alcohol-doused swab around the area that connects to the battery. Particulars build up and create a weak connection.
Battery- purchase a good quality 510 thread battery to be assured of a long life. Keep it charged often. Just like the cartridge, clean all contact points between the battery and cartridge spots. Wipe with an alcoholic cotton tip and let dry completely.
Concentrates
There are plenty of different concentrated cannabis products. Live Resin, Rosin, Diamonds and sauces, Crumble, wax, and shatter to list some of the most popular creations.
The method of consumption (dab rig, water pipe, vape pen) all boils down to the perfect temperature to transform the concentrate into a vapor to be inhaled. Use small amounts of concentrate each time (less mess and waste). Keep your equipment clean to function well.
Edibles
RSO- (Rick Simpson Oil or Full Spectrum) So the stuff in the syringe is extremely goopy. The taste is extremely strong. One way that I've found to counteract the flavor is to place a dose in a peanut butter sandwich. It does wonders for being able to mask the taste. Find tasty food and hide it within.
Chocolate/ candies- keep in a cool place to prevent melting. It's a bad feeling to pull an edible out of your pocket or purse and feel the squishiness. It's not good to wear the cannabis you intended to eat.
If you are new to edibles, remember it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours or so to feel an effect. Don't consume more edibles because you aren't feel a difference right away. This could end up being on the light side, uncomfortable and on the outside, it could send you to the emergency room.

Experts suggest starting with a dose of 2.5 mg of THC and not taking more than 40 mg of THC per day. Edible effects can peak at around 4 hours and stay active in your system for 12 to 24 hours.
Beverages- most canna beverages are best when drunk cool. Think of a refreshing, summer libation. Chilling or adding ice to your beverage can make the experience a refreshing one.
There are hot drinks on the market but they are sometimes harder to find. Coffees, teas, and hot chocolate are available from fully stocked dispensaries. I have also tried infused sugar which works well in most drinks.
Tincture
A tip for utilizing tinctures: mix them into a favorite drink. I have never had a tincture that tasted decent. Even tinctures that come with flavoring added, are not the most palatable for me. This is not to say that a great-tasting tincture doesn't exist. I just haven't experienced it yet. Disguising tinctures work best for me.
Topicals
Topicals are basically self-explanatory. However, one tip I have for using topicals is to not wear your best clothing while utilizing an oil, balm, or cream. No need to ruin your clothing. Wear some PJs or sweatsuits for those days.
Other Tips
When consuming cannabis in any form, consume it responsibly. This means knowing your local and state regulations. Do not consume in public places unless it is specifically lawful to do so. This usually means consuming within restaurants, bars, sidewalks, streets, and parks is off-limits.
Summary
Cannabis is a journey, one that will be different each time you consume it. Different strains, cannabinoids, and terpenes all play an important part in your journey. So does learning some shortcuts and tips.
The most important tip I have found along my journey is to relax, breathe and enjoy. Cannabis is natural but not harmless. Being calm, cool, and collected will go a long way to having an amazing cannabis journey.
